As we conclude Black History Month, we pause to honor and celebrate the Black leaders who have shaped—and continue to shape—our communities, our institutions, and our democracy. Their leadership, perseverance, and commitment to justice have strengthened the civic fabric of the 30th Legislative District and helped create pathways for future generations to lead.
As Chair, on behalf of all of our members of the 30th District Democrats, we express our deep gratitude for the service and contributions of leaders who have dedicated their time and talents to improving the lives of others, including Les Sessoms, Lydia Assefa-Dawson, the late Roger Freeman, former Federal Way Councilmember and former State Representative Jesse Johnson, and State Representatives Jamila Taylor and Kristine Reeves. Their work reflects a deep commitment to equity, opportunity, and public service, and their impact continues to be felt across our district and throughout Washington State.
Black History Month is both a time of reflection and a reaffirmation of our responsibility to continue advancing equity, representation, and opportunity for all. The progress we have made is the result of leaders who stepped forward to serve, advocate, and ensure that our institutions better reflect the diversity and strength of the communities they represent.
We recognize that the legacy of leadership demonstrated by these individuals continues to inspire civic participation, public service, and community engagement throughout the 30th Legislative District. Their dedication reminds us that representation matters and that strong communities are built when all voices are heard and valued.
We thank them for their service, their leadership, and their enduring contributions to our district, our party, and our shared democratic values.
