| In this section, we’re focusing more on the history of the Civil Rights movement in the United States rather than the current battles (although we do start out with two organizations that continue the good fight). If we don’t remember our common history and share that history with others, we will loose everything that so many have worked so hard to achieve. |

| Whether or not you agree with the methodology of the Black Panthers, it is important to understand the history of this organization and its role in the Civil Rights movement of the 1960’s and 1970’s. |
This is one of many biographical sources of information for Martin Luther King Jr. The dream of Dr. King has yet to be fully realized. In remembering the purpose, we are better prepared to continue taking the action. |

An Absolutely incredible collection of online source documents regarding U.S. Constitional History. These are the writings of the actual participants. They also have an incredible section on historical law dating back to the 7th Century. It’s all available online. |

Center For Constitional Rights |
| The Constitional Convention was actually an interesting little affair. Those attending the convention did so largely in secret. It was agreed that the proceedings would not be divulged to the public. James Madison, however, kept an incredibly detailed account of the proceedings. These are his notes. |
The CCR does a great job at fighting those issues which most threaten our Constitution today. If you really want to understand the gravity of the threats our Constitution is facing (and the threats to the citizens whom that Constitution protects), then you really have to visit this website. |
| The Constitution Project |
American Constitution Society |
| This is another organization which works to protect the Constitution and our rights under that document. They’re in the trenches of the Courts and in Congress. The Constitution Project “has earned wide–ranging respect for its expertise and reports, including practical material designed to make constitutional issues a part of ordinary political debate.” |
The ACS works hard at protecting the progressive ideals contained within the U.S. Constitution. Ten different Issue Groups ensures that the organization is working to protect our Constitution on several fronts. This website contains a lot of information on the wide–ranging threats to our democratic foundations and Constitution. |

Constitutional Laws & Criminal Procedures |
| This single issue organization is closely watching, fighting back against, and speaking out about the increasing amount of video surveillance in our society. The corporate media seems to be telling us a lot that we “shouldn’t worry about this stuff.” If they’re telling us not to worry, I’d be worried. This is all about the security apparatus that is being built up around us. |
This is a link that was sent to me by a Social Studies tutor that was found by her class. While this is the website of a law office in Los Angeles, there are many links to articles and papers that address the Constitution and Criminal Procedures. Now that we've posted this link, I understand the students will get a free day next Friday after their test. Keep up with the studies!!! |

News, Reports and Interviews about the corporate criminals, what they’re doing, and how they’re getting away with. It isn’t always a matter of corporate corruption and crime. There are criminally corrupt politians as well — people who use the same corporate tactics and strategies order to eliminate political opposition and, as a consequence, our democratic institutions. |

Education Reform |
|
| To be honest, I (the Webmaster) wasn’t able to find a hell of a lot of stuff that impressed me when it comes to Education Reform. I know, for example, that there are some good things happening at the local level in various communities and cities around the nation. At the national level, however, it all pretty much looks like a muddled mess to me. |
| Personally, I believe that real reform of any type is best crafted in a bottom–up manner. At best, I will remain skeptical of “reform” that is impossed from the top–down. |
| Race To The Top |
Center For Education Reform |
| This is a Washington Post article written by Arne Duncan, the Secretary of Education. While the effort is laudible in that it allows for school districts to devise their own reform programs (bottom–up), the fact that it is a competition means that those without “the best” ideas will be excluded from receiving adequate funding to rebuild that which has been destroyed over the past 30–40 years. This methodology does not promote equality as the basis of educational reform. This method doesn’t provide full funding of public education, which should be the primary goal. |
There are many organizations such as this one which expound the supposed virtues of Charter Schools. If we understand the degree to which our government has already been privitized, Charter Schools should be a scary concept. On the surface, the educational reform efforts seem sincere. But, the end result will be that education is removed the control of We The People, and placed in control of Them The Greedy Corporations. Charter schools only serve to eliminate the People’s control of education, and gives instead the control to private corporations. |
| Democrats For Education Reform |
Core Knowledge |
| If I might suggest, these are Democrats more along the Clinton line of thinking — Third Way Democrats. A Third Way Democrats will sell your rights down the road and not give it a second thought. (I will refrain from discussing the how Third Way Democrats play into the hands of fascism.) As an example, DFER supports charter schools where public schools are not up to the task. I pointed out the problem of private control of public education above. To accept such a position is to not insist on full funding of public education. It’s pretty much that simple as far as I’m concerned. We The People should control education, not for-profit corporations. Charter Schools are the foot in the door at placing our public education system beyond the accountability of We The People. |
Despite the previously mentioned efforts at at “education reform,” there is some hope. Core Knowledge stresses that there is a core, common knowledge that should be the basis of education. In this way, all students finish their basic education with the common knowledge that has been stripped out of our current education system — and this includes history and an understanding of Our Constitution. (When you strip the core knowledge out of education, we loose our abilities democratically rule ourselves.) Yet, the “education reform efforts” mentioned above are trying to reinvent a wheel that has already been placed into common use. Why should we hope for the Charter Schools to save the day, when we should have full funding of public education that have a basis such as Core Knowledge? |
| War On Education |
| If you think that the failures of our education system are the result of government incompetence, guess again. Two months before his 1971 appointment to the Supreme Court by Nixon, Lewis Powell sent this memo to the President of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The memo outlines the reason for destroying our education system, and the means to do it. Government does and will work quite nicely IF the fascists aren’t in control. We have a lot to do to reclaim not only our education system, but our whole system of governance. |
